A Topsy-Turvy Summer 2021! Summer is a time to chase a dream, to reach for the stars, and to really savor the days, now more than ever! Each of these artist workshops is a challenging, magical, and empowering experience. I really LOVE summer because each artist can go deeper with each project, has far more time to connect with us in the studio, and we can just have more fun together!

Miniature Mouse - Backyard Treehouse Dates

MM-Kitchen-Pic.jpeg

This workshop is so fun and rewarding that it sold-out the last four Summers! Using the 1"=1' scale we will create a handmade, posable mouse creature and wonderful miniature room box (12” x 9” x 4.5”) to contain it! This past summer we worked on a KITCHEN! (We’ve done a bedroom, bathroom, & art studio!) This exciting retreat includes hand and (supervised) machine sewing, sculpting with Fimo, bead work, embroidery, mini-furniture making, wallpapering, miniature book making, and miniature mouse clothing. Pure miniature magic!

Ages 7+ and must have some experience with the glue gun. We will use Exacto blades and other tools which are for careful kids.

I Can Fetch - Large Scale Paper Mâché Sculpting Dates

IMG_2278 2.jpg

Think CANINE. Think BEST FRIEND. Think EMPOWERING! Everyone knows how much Miss Patrice loves dog (think Wallace, June, Merlin and the studio dog collection!) Each artist will begin with observation, then sketching and then sculpting. Think charcoal sketches and image searches. The sculpting was done with paper, balloons, and recyclables to capture the basic canine shape and gestures. We engineered the dogs “skeleton” and internal structure for balance and adorableness using 18 gauge wire. A few layers of paper mache created the “skin” of the pup, then coats of paint using brushes stippling and blotting to capture fur, hair, pattern and color. Ages 5+

Fairy Village Workshop - Dates

If you can dream it you can do it! Really! This highly requested workshop focuses on REAL building skills: foundation, framing, roofing, and siding of a scale-model structure made from all natural materials. Each artist will build a structure and then construct accessory pieces to furnish their abodes. The building size is loosely based on the 1“=1’ scale. This workshop is a popular offering every summer!

Ages 7+ and must have some experience with the glue gun.

Covid-19 Simple Summer-Updated June 1, 2020

After many full-hearted hours researching and discussing how best to move forward with StudioTime Summer, I feel confident that we have designed a secure in-person summer program. YAY! We have begun the transformation of the StudioTime front and back yards into places of safety, comfort, and utility. We know how badly the kids are craving normalcy and the familiar in their lives, and to that end we are so happy to offer them a safe and magical StudioTime experience during this uneasy time! We have thoughtfully and meticulously restructured each workshop to give you and your artist(s) the highest level of safety possible, which is my top priority, and we have eliminated any vulnerable activities and features. I continue to closely monitor the CDC and city of Alameda guidelines (see links below), and I have reworked our summer program to reflect those protocols. We will keep you informed of any additional changes that may occur as we proceed.

Summer Workshop Details (subject to change pending current COVID guidelines)

The Summer kids program fills quickly and require a non-refundable deposit. Full payment is also accepted.

The Summer StudioTime 4-day retreat daily schedule is a packed 1.5 hour morning studio session followed by a 1-hour lunch break and fun activity to get their bodies moving. Then we’ll head back into the studio to for another 2.5 hours of studio session. (Note- this is an approximation, as weather and workload can alter the daily schedule.)

Please bring a lunch and beverage each day.

All materials and healthy snacks included.
